Ogun State Government has revealed its plan to recruit more teachers with background in Agricultural Science to help drive and implement its new agricultural education training programme(AETP) in public primary and secondary schools in the state.
It says the programme which would be commenced soon in 80 public schools as a pilot study, was meant to introduce agricultural science as a subject at the basic education level to nurture a generation of agricultural innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders.
The Chairman of Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi disclosed this recently in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital after an advocacy meeting of stakeholders on the implementation of agricultural education training programme in selected state -:owned primary and junior secondary schools.
Majekodunmi who spoke to allay the fears that there may not be adequate subject teachers on ground to ensure implementation and its success of the agric education policy in schools, said that planned recruitment of Agriculture Science teachers was part of the government’s agenda concerning the programme.
Speaking during the meeting, he described the AETP as initiative of the state government in alignment with the federal government, saying it was designed to make agricultural science more practical oriented, provide learners with requisite skills to stimulate self employment and to equip them with functional entrepreneurship knowledge and life skills.
