The state chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has advised those who lost out in the March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Ogun State to explore constitutionally approved means to seek redress or challenge the polls’ outcomes.
IPAC which frowned at the alleged attempts by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the state, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu to heat up the polity with their recent disruptive protests in Abeokuta and other actions deemed inimical to the nation’s democracy, urged the party and the candidate to approach the Court if they were not satisfied with the polls outcome.
Addressing the press in Abeokuta, the state capital on Friday, the state chairman of IPAC, Mr. Samson Okunsanya, said that the body wants peace in Ogun State and advised politicians to ventilate their grievances over the elections by using lawful means and not resort to unnecessary distractions and disruptions.
Okunsanya who spoke in company of over a dozen leaders of registered political parties and their candidates, including Nollywood actor, Femi Branch,
commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its performance during the last Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections in the State.
He said the body is very much satisfied with the conduct of the election and its outcome, lauding the INEC for the early commencement of the polls in majority of the polling centres, wards and local governments as well as the speedy transmission of results in most of the constituencies in the state.
The State Chairman of IPAC who doubles as the chairman of the People’s Redemption Party(PRP), said the body was neither sponsored nor paid by anybody to address the press in respect of the polls, saying with the election having been won and lost by candidates, there was the need for all concerned to maintain peace to enable Ogun State moves forward.
“We commend INEC for early commencement of voting in majority of the polling units in Ogun State. We also commend INEC for the early transmission of results in most of the constituencies in the state.
.“We congratulate the winners Prince Dapo Abiodun, his victory is a refreshing one to every common man.
“We want to make this known to Nigerians that everything as stipulated by the Electoral Act has come to play.
“It is a very serious development in the political terrain of Nigeria, so we thank the political actors and the electorate for the successful conduct of the elections, ” IPAC state chairman said.
