A hotelier and businessman, Alhaji Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, has instituted a court acton against an investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, and Foindation for Investigative Journalism(FIJ) Lagos for allegedly defaming his person and character through many libellous publications.
Also sued for alleged libel alongside Soyombo and FIJ is the Arise Media Group, Lagos.
According to the writ of sumon made available to The Daily Crucible, Alhaji Egungbohun is demanding N5billion Naira from Soyombo and others as damage for the alleged defamation against him.
He is also asking for payment of the sum of N10million Naira, which he reckoned as the cost of instituting the legal action against them.
In the suit marked W/2286/24, at a Federal High Court sitting within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, the claimant is praying the court to grant among other things, a declaration that the defendants defamed him, a retraction of the libellous materials and tendering of an unreserved apology by the defendants as well as an order restraining them from making further defamation against him.
The suit was filed on May 3, 2024.
