Media professional and Publisher of Nigerian Newstrack, Dayo O. DaSilva, has commended the Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the appointment of former BBC senior journalist, Gbolahan Peter Macjob, as spokesperson to Senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, describing the move as a step towards prioritising professionalism and competence in political communication.
DaSilva, whose career spans journalism, publishing, public relations and strategic communication, said the appointment was a positive development for both Obasanjo and the PDP, stressing that political communication requires experience, credibility and professional expertise.
Sharing a common foundation in Mass Communication with Macjob, DaSilva described the appointment as a case of a “round peg in a round hole,” urging the PDP to sustain the deployment of qualified professionals and technocrats to strategic media positions and other critical roles.
He noted that Macjob’s experience in broadcast journalism and filmmaking could strengthen Obasanjo’s media engagement and create opportunities to promote Ogun State’s creative industry.
DaSilva said the appointment signalled that the PDP was learning valuable lessons about the importance of competence in building a credible political organisation. He urged the party to extend the same principle to other strategic positions to strengthen public confidence and demonstrate its readiness to do things right.
