No fewer than 1,350 households in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have benefited from ₦101.25 million under the Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment – Cash Transfer (HOPE-CT) programme.
The Ogun State Programme Manager of the State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr. Damilola Owoojuona, disclosed this during the distribution of debit cards to beneficiaries at the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Secretariat in Ota.
Owoojuona said the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s social investment programme aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening social protection and empowering vulnerable households under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He explained that the beneficiaries, selected from the National Social Register, would each receive a total grant of ₦75,000 in three instalments of ₦25,000 through debit cards issued under the scheme.
According to him, the 1,350 beneficiaries in Ado-Odo/Ota are among over 23,000 shortlisted households across Ogun State captured under the programme, with the state expected to receive about ₦1.7 billion under the HOPE-CT initiative.
“The HOPE-CT programme is a Federal Government grant established to improve the living conditions of poor and vulnerable households. Each beneficiary will receive ₦75,000 in three instalments of ₦25,000 each,” he said.
Owoojuona assured beneficiaries of transparency and accountability in the implementation of the programme, noting that payments are based on National Identification Number (NIN) biometric verification to ensure only eligible recipients benefit.
He also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for aligning the state with the programme since 2020.
Also speaking, the Head of Operations of the State Cash Transfer Unit, Mrs. Eniolawun Oluwakemi, said previous beneficiaries across the state had used the grants to improve household welfare, support children’s education and expand small businesses.
She expressed confidence that beneficiaries in Ado-Odo/Ota would also channel the funds into productive and sustainable ventures.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Oluwadamilola Olayode and Mr. Taofeek Adeleke, described the intervention as timely and impactful, saying it would significantly improve their socio-economic wellbeing.
