President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Aina, who turns 40 in July, is regarded as a leading academic and systems expert with extensive experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform within the public sector.
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, before earning an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in national admissions processes and data-driven institutional systems.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, he has built a reputation at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation, advising both federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design, and operational reforms.
At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), offering expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
Professor Aina belongs to several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
According to the presidency, President Tinubu expects the new registrar to leverage his experience and expertise to consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership while taking the examination body to greater heights.
