House of Representatives Committee Chairman on National Planning and Economic Development, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka – GNI, on Sunday declared that the current positive trajectory of the nation’s economy driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold leadership, is a pointer to the greater things that await Nigeria in the next few years.
Hon. Isiaka who represents Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of Ogun State in the 10th National Assembly, also said that the President deserves reelection in 2027, stressing that the economic route he’s taking the country through remains the best.
The lawmaker spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while fielding questions during a media parley with newsmen.
He explained that the essence of Tinubu’s leadership is not to take the nation through the easiest route, but through the right path that would bring about the set goal of achieving desired result.
Isiaka, popularly called GNI among his supporters, noted that despite the challenges trailing the President’s tough reforms, particularly fuel subsidy removal and naira floatation, they had within a short time saw the Nigeria’s foreign reserves getting better, exchange rate stabilizing and inflation trending downward.
He said, “The answer to the question whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves a second term in office is capital YES. We are on the path to progress, some very hard and tough decisions have to be taken.
“The essence of leadership is not necessarily to take you through the easiest route. The essence of leadership is take you through the right route that would lead you to the desired result. I’m convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the path Mr President is taking us through is the best route and of course it is laden with challenges but just within this short time, reserves are getting better, the exchange rate has stabilized, inflation is going down and so on and so forth.
“So, I believe that it is left for us to be a little patient and I think that by the time we get that second term, I’m sure we will see better things.”

Earlier in his address, Isiaka reeled out data to justify his assertions that the country’s economy is looking positively upward with Tinubu’s bold reforms.
He explained that instead of taking the easy path that offers short-term gain but long-term pain, the President had chosen a courageous and necessary leap which should be commended by discerning Nigerians.
He said, “This positive trajectory is driven by the bold leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope Agenda has created the enabling policy framework for meaningful reforms across the nation. Since assuming office, Mr. President has pursued a reform-driven economic agenda anchored on difficult yet necessary decisions.
“From the removal of fuel subsidy to the unification of foreign exchange rates, these measures have begun to yield measurable outcomes. Foreign exchange reserves have risen from $32.9 billion at the end of 2023 to over $38.448 billion USDAs of today, June, 2025, while the federal fiscal deficit has narrowed significantly, signaling stronger financial discipline and improved economic management.
“Also, our exchange rate policy has yielded a stable and predictable exchange rate that enhances planning and encourages greater direct investment flows into the economy. While inflation, which had previously risen to alarming levels, is now beginning to trend downward. The recently passed Tax Reform Bill represents a major step forward, optimizing revenue collection, reducing leakages, and enabling more sustainable investments in infrastructure and social services.
“The economy is gradually gaining resilience. Growth projections remain steady, with GDP expected to expand by an average of 3.5% through 2026. Monetary tightening by the Central Bank is beginning to rein in inflation, creating the fiscal space for a more balanced and productive economy. Indeed, where would we have been without these bold decisions? Instead of taking the easy path that offers short-term gain but long-term pain, the President has chosen a courageous and necessary leap and we commend him for that.
“His leadership has inspired growing confidence that Nigeria is turning a corner.Though there are still challenges, there is a sense of cautious optimism in the air. The reforms, while demanding, are laying the groundwork for long-term stability and shared prosperity. As a constituency, we align with this vision, believing that the sacrifices of today will secure a better future for Nigerians, sooner or later.”
Giving his mid – term scorecard, the first time House of Representatives member revealed that he had sponsored five bills, including the bills for the establishment of an Agro-Processing & Export Free Trade Zone in Imeko – Afon, and the bill for the establishment of a Federal Institute of Technical and Vocational Education in Imeko.
According to him, no fewer than 4,000 constituents have been empowered through carefully designed intervention programmes spanning key sectors and ranging from motorcycles, tricycles, vocational tools, agricultural inputs to cash grants.
