Seven persons have been confirmed dead and 11 others gravely injured in an auto crash in Ogun State corridor of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
The crash which occurred at 21.33 hours on Monday night involved a total of 18 persons, comprising 15 male adults and 03 female adults.
Two vehicles – an unmarked truck and a Mazda bus – were involved in the accident.
The Mazda bus marked MNY894 YN was said to have rammed into the rear of the moving of the non-descript truck.
The Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer for the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the crash on Tuesday morning via a release and attributed the cause to “excessive speed on the part of the madza bus driver who rammed into a moving truck from the rear.”
Okpe who confirmed this on behalf of the Sector Commander, Ogun State Command, Anthony Uga, said the injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere while the remains of the dead were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara.
She stated, “The crash occurred at 2133 hrs last night with a total of 18 persons involved which comprised 15 male adult and 03 female adult.
“A total of 11 people were injured ( 09 male adult and 02 female adult) while 07 Persons were recorded death from the crash. 05 male and 02 female..
Vehicle involved 02 a truck with no registration number and a Mazda bus MNY894 YN.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the madza bus driver who rammed on a moving truck from the rear.
“The injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara .
“FRSC caution motorists to shun speed and use common sense speed limit especially at night and during the rain due to poor visibility.
“The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun sympathize with the family of the crash victims and advised passengers to always be on alert to correct some wrong mistakes cause by the drivers.”
