Sources close to the Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command, has given a little insight into how the abducted students of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, were rescued.
The Daily Crucible reports that gunmen had on Thursday, May 9 attacked the campus and kidnapped over a dozen of the students in a night raid while they were preparing for the first semester examinations.
Shortly after the abduction, Governor Usman Ododo vowed to put measures in place to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
Police source told The Daily Crucible that since the incident happened, a combined and coordinated security operations by the police and sister agencies, including gallant vigilante men, had been combing dark spots and bushes in parts of the state until the victims were traced to a non-descript location and rescued.
The source was however silent on whether the abductors suffered injuries or casualties during exchange of fire to free the hostages, but said 14 students were rescued by the joint security operatives that commenced operations after the abduction happened on Thursday.
According to the source, the rescued students have been taken to hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has announced the safe rescue of the students of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State, who were kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo, who disclosed this on Sunday in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, said the students were rescued hours after Governor Ododo visited the campus and promised to rescue them unhurt.
He hailed the gallant efforts of all the security agents put to rescue the students from their abductors.
According to him, the unknown gunmen were confronted with superior power, forcing them abandon their victims and escaped.
