The FirstNews General Editor, Mr Segun Olatunji, has resigned his appointment as General Editor with the First Media Network Limited, the publisher of FirstNews, an online news platform.
This came barely hours after the First News Management, in a statement on Wednesday, May 8, said it had discovered the story published earlier on Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila contained “falsehoods and fabricated stories handed out to us as facts by a misleading source which was highly negligent on our part and for which we deeply tender an unreserved apology to the Chief of Staff to the President.”
Apparently not comfortable with the apology, Mr Olatunji hinted that in the resignation letter dated May 8, 2024 and addressed to the firm’s Publisher/Managing Director, citing a new development arising from the Gbajabiamila story and the stance of the company’s Management pertaining to it as reasons for resigning.
He also cited concern for the safety of his person and family as additional reason for quitting the appointment.
While expressing the confidence that in no distant time, the truth of what transpired will come to the fore and then it’ll be his word against theirs, he thanked the company’s management for giving him the opportunity to contribute his quota to its operations in the past four years.
He also expressed the hope that the Management of First Media Network Limited, will be magnanimous enough to fully settle his outstanding entitlements in no time.
