Seven persons were burnt to death and 18 others gravely injured when a Toyota Sienna car went up in flames after it collided with a Mazda bus.
The fatal crash occurred at about 09.21a.m. few metres away from Sapaade bridge within Ogun State corridor of Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Ahmed Umar, confirmed the accident, stating that
a total of 27 persons were involved which comprised of 25 male adult , 02 female adult and 01 female child.
Ahmed Umar gave the number of people injured as 18( 17 male adult and one female adult) while 07 persons were burnt beyond recognition.
Describing vehicles involved in the accident as Toyota Sienna with registration number BWR762PV and a Mazda bus marked BDN18 LG, he attributed the causes to “excessive speed and Route violation on the part of the sienna bus.”
He explained that the Sienna followed One way and collided with the Mazda bus which triggered a fire outbreak.
Also, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe FRSC Public Education Officer for Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command, said the injured were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere and Idera Hospital Sagamu while the remains of the dead were deposited at FOS Morgue Ipara.
The Sector Commander therefore cautioned motorists on the dangers of route violation and excessive speed, advising them to drive cautiously and consider other road users.
He also Commiserated with the family of the victims and advised them to contact FRSC Ogere for more information about the crash.
