The Presidential Election Petition Court(PETC) has given the pre-hearing report on three different petitions seeking to quash the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The PETC also presented the trial schedule and when the judgement is likely to be delivered.
The chairman of the five-man panel of the court, Justice Haruna Tsammani, read the pre-hearing report which included the declaration of the court’s decision to consolidate all the petitions to be heard as one.
Following this, Tsammani announced that the hearing of the petition would commence on May 30, 2023.
Tsammani said after the adoption of written addresses on August 5, 2023, the court shall thereafter prepare for judgement, according to the Punch report.
He disclosed this when the petition of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi was called.
Later, he announced that hearing in the three petitions – filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) – will end on August 8 with adoption of final written addresses in the petition by Atiku/PDP.
The court had earlier chosen hearing of the petition by Obi and the LP, to end August 5 with final adoption of written address while the petitioners are required to conduct their case within three weeks.
Atiku and the PDP have also been allocated three weeks within to conduct their case, with August 8 chosen as the date for final adoption after which the judgment day will be announced.
The APM is allocated one day to conduct its case, while July 3 is chosen as the date for final adoption, following which a date will be set for judgment.
