The Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, on behalf of the Management, Staff and Students of the University, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of Friday, December 20 fatal accident along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye road.
The lone fatal accident claimed the lives of three students of OOU who were identified as Nifesimi Dada, 300 Level Geology; Opeyemi Joshua, 200 Level Taxation; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, 200 Level Mass Communication.
Some students of the University, who were also among the passengers of the ill-fated vehicle and injured in the crash were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
A statement on Saturday by Wale Balogun, Ph.D, Corporate Affairs Division OOU, Ago-Iwoye, quoted Prof. Agboola as stating that the University remains deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the students in the incident.
The Vice Chancellor also stated that the university was working with the relevant authorities to provide support and assistance to the affected families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families during this incredibly difficult time. We can only imagine the unbearable pain and grief that they must be experiencing and we want them to know that they are not alone in the sorrow,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
“The loss of precious lives is always devastating, and it is especially heartbreaking when it happens unexpectedly and under such tragic circumstances. Our University Community is still reeling from the shock of this incident, and we pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed,” he added.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, the Vice-Chancellor prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the University Community and the general public that the institution would continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.
