About 20 persons were reported dead at Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state as an unidentified cement – filled truck lost control and grazed to residential area.
The incident which occurred at about 2pm on Friday, along police area, command claimed the lives of the driver, two police officers, two children, old and nursing mothers and other yet to be identified persons, according to a viral video.
The trending video on Saturday revealed residential buildings, kiosks and shops destroyed when the truck ploughed into them.
Grieving residents could also be seen wailing as lifeless bodies of children and aged pulled out from the scene.
A witness to the accident, who identified himself as Mr Sunday Alor claimed that the truck had brake failure before the police area command and veered to a market and family houses along the road, kìlling residents and traders at their homes, according to Blueprint.
“See this woman crying? Her two sons have died, and she also sustained injuries. There is a woman that was knocked down in her bedroom in this building. The driver is still inside the truck and we are trying to rescue him. But is like he is already dead,” a voice narrator in the trending video added, the paper quoted.
However, the Anambra State Police Command and State command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were yet to speak on the tragic incident.
