Armed men have invaded an event centre in Iperu area of Ogun State and opened fire on the revellers, killing one of them identified as Olowojobi Yinka, a lecturer at Babcock University, Ilisan, Ogun State.
The Daily Crucible gathered that the armed men – eight in number, stormed the event centre identified as Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road in the Iperu area of the state on April 19, at about 9.20pm after they had made a sudden emergence from an unknown location.
The assailants who were dressed in black attire opened fire indiscriminately on the people relaxing in the lounge, triggering a huge commotion, panic and stampede as guests at the lounge struggled to flee the place.
It was learnt that the attackers seized the Babcock lecturer and shot him in the chest when he resisted being taken away by them.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, who confirmed this in release on Monday morning, April 22, said a security man who had spent barely two weeks doing security job at the event centre was arrested in connection with the incident.
She stated, “A report from the Iperu Division indicates that a kidnapping and murder incident occurred on the 19th of April, 2024, at about 9:20 pm.
It was reported that gunshots were heard at the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road in the Iperu area in Ogun State. Eye witnesses were able to count eight men dressed in black and armed with guns emerged from an unknown place into the relaxing lounge and open fire indiscriminately, where one person later identified as a lecturer at Babcock University named Olowojobi Yinka, was shot in the chest, for resisting to go away with the hoodlums, at their prompt, while a manager of a car stand, simply known as Dare “m” the third person is yet to be identified.
A suspicious coincidence led the police to arrest one Awada Ishaya “m” of Plateau state who was employed two weeks ago when the event center was launched as a security man for further interrogation.
The lecturer was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits and rescue the kidnapped victims. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.”
