The University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, has warned members of the university community, especially female students against making “egg donation’ a permanent source of income or a ‘side hustle.’
Issuing the warning through the university Health Services in an internal memo dated April 15, 2025, and in an apparent reaction to the rising cases female students allegedly selling their eggs under the guise of donations to families struggling with infertility, UI listed short – term and long – term health implications of the practice.
The memo reads in part: “It has come to our attention that there is a growing trend within the University Community involving the participation and/or recruitment of female students as egg donors for In – Vitro Fertilization(IVF) by individuals, agents, or agencies.
