A twist has crept into the political crisis rocking Rivers State as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to conduct any bye election to replace 27 state lawmakers who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for the opposition All Progressives Congress(APC).
The 27 Rivers State Assembly lawmakers believed to be loyal former governor, Nyesom Wike who is now the FCT Minister, had on December 11 reportedly defected to the APC.
It was learnt that Donatus Okorowo, the presiding judge, gave the order on Friday, but was made available to reporters on Monday.
The court also restrained
the four member House of Assembly led by Speaker Edison from declaring vacant the seat of the 27 APC Rivers Assembly Members.
