Knowledge is like spring of water which should never be allowed to dry up because lives depend on it for survival. And knowledge, as they say, is power. Therefore, to empower the Nigerian tomorrow’s leaders nothing could be more vital than giving them quality formal education, using quality textbooks like Tomorrow’s Leaders Comprehensive Civic Education books for JSS1 to JSS3. They need formal education, such that will equip them for challenges dotting the route to greatness.
Tomorrow’s Leader’s books are written with the interest of the students, the nation and the future of both.
Meanwhile, the books are for JSS1, JSS2 and JSS3. They are drafted, first, in accordance with the National curriculum on Civic Education developed by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Commission (NERDC). The books are easy to comprehend; aside the illustrations are skillfully framed questions to enable the lesson stamp indelibly on the formative minds of pupils and students, they will serve as a good tool for the reading public to understand and apply rationally acceptable solutions to individual’s challenges.
The cover pages is illustrated with images of different professions as a means to educate the readers that leadership is not limited to politics.In the moral lesson session, JSS1 books featured topical live issues such as “Self-Control, Tolerance, Perseverance, Drug, etc.” JSS2 also in its moral lesson session featured, “Emotion, Quick-fix, Diligence, etc.’ For JSS3 book, this appear to have a higher grade issues, the book features, “Accountability, Relationship, Conscience, Bold, etc. Taking conscience as a case in-point, it teaches the students to avoid ills against their neighbour such that could lead them to have guilty conscience.
To have civic education and moral instructions packed in one book is innovative, it is not intended to overload the academic work scheme of the students. It complies with Federal Ministry of Education’s civic curriculum advice that additional moral instructions books should be used to impart the students. If truly the idle mind is the devil’s workshop, good books worth reading and capable to build the students into adults with integrity should be received with warmth. It is immoral and condemnable that children as little as ten years old indulge in sex, and a child of 15 kidnap and sell babies to ritualists. It all stems from faulty upbringing and abandoning of children to themselves.
The books are a call on parents, teachers, government and other critical stakeholders to join hands to raise morally sound children who will future leaders.
The influence of Western culture, life-style including parents’ official engagements have taken the place of the periods the family is supposed to share together. Hours spent with children are regrettably too small to positively affect their lives morally.
Commendably, the approval from Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Federal Ministry of Education make the books unique and a necessary tool to equip and mold the Nigerian tomorrow’s leaders. The dual approval make the books first among equals, one that teachers will delight. They no longer have to source for extra moral lesson books for their students. This is because Tomorrow’s Leader’s Comprehensive Civic Education books are a 2-in-1 book.
In the approved booklist of LASG, you will find the JSS1 on page 6, JSS2 on page 15 and JSS3 on page 25. The list will be in use until 2026 when the next review will come into effect. Updating the books will be a constant development. For example, the reversal to the old national anthem which came into effect on May 29, 2024 is already incorporated into the books.
