No fewer than 30 people have lost their lives in a road accident on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway at Onipetesi community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The victims were reportedly burnt to death when two buses conveying them collided head-on and burst into balls of flames on Saturday evening.
Sources said the accident occurred when two commercial buses caught fire after they collided, leaving no survivors as the occupants were trapped in the burning buses.
The Sector Commander of Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Mr Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed this on Sunday, saying preliminary investigations revealed that one of the vehicles involved in the accident was driving against traffic.
He said, “Thirty people lost their lives in the accident. Twenty-eight persons were burnt beyond recognition, while two initially survived but later died on their way to the hospital.”
The FRSC commander advised motorists to drive with caution on the expressway and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
