2027: Politics Should Be Driven More By Service Than Personal Ambition – GMM

United States – based philanthropist Gabriel Mbadiwe Mabatah, popularly known as GMM, is a physician and a practicing pharmacist. He shares his thoughts with Mick Oseji on his upbringing, philanthropy, family values, the youth, politics and other issues, revealing what he will do if given opportunity to serve his Ika people in 2027.

Rivers’ Case Is Extraordinary Situation Demanding Suspension Of Governor, Deputy, Lawmakers – AGF, Fagbemi

‎Dr, could you please tell us about yourself briefly?

‎I am Dr. Gabriel Mbadiwe Mabatah, a medical doctor and a practicing pharmacist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with a passion for community development and human capacity building. I am deeply committed to using my knowledge, resources, and experience to make a positive difference in people’s lives both in Nigeria and abroad.
‎
‎ Who are your parents?

‎I was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Mabatah of Emuhu in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. My parents were hardworking, disciplined, and God-fearing individuals who instilled in me and my siblings the values of honesty, humility, and service to humanity.
‎
‎
‎ How would you describe your upbringing?
‎
‎
‎I had a modest upbringing filled with love, discipline, and faith. My father was a teacher and he emphasized the importance of education, integrity, and respect for others. Those early lessons shaped my outlook on life and continue to guide my decisions today.

‎ May we know your educational background and work experience?

‎I obtained my pharmaceutical degree and practicing before proceeding to obtain my medical degree. Over the years, I have worked across reputable institutions in the healthcare sector, gaining valuable experience in clinical practice, management, and humanitarian services. My career has been driven by a deep desire to improve health outcomes and support community health initiatives.

‎

How long have you living abroad?
‎
‎I have been living abroad for about four decades, though I maintain strong ties with home and visit Nigeria frequently to support local projects and community programs.

‎ How would you compare life abroad to that in Nigeria, considering the high rate of emigration?

‎Life abroad is structured, with systems that generally work efficiently. However, Nigeria is home, and no matter how good life abroad may seem, nothing compares to contributing to your own nation’s growth. The current rate of emigration reflects people’s search for better opportunities, but I believe we can create those same opportunities back home in Nigeria if we focus on good governance and accountability.

How does governance in your country of residence compare to your home country, Nigeria?

‎Governance abroad tends to be more transparent, with systems that prioritize the welfare of citizens over personal interest. In Nigeria, we have the potential for greatness, but we must strengthen our institutions, reduce corruption, and embrace meritocracy to achieve similar standards.

‎Your name has become synonymous with philanthropy; what would you say is your main motivation for giving?

‎My greatest motivation is compassion. I believe that true wealth is measured not by what we possess but by the lives we touch. Giving is my way of expressing gratitude to God for His blessings and ensuring that others have the opportunity to rise above their challenges.

‎2027 is drawing closer by the day and the race for elective offices appeared to have commenced underground by politicians whose eyes are already focused on the next general elections. Do you have an interest in politics?

‎Yes, I do. I see politics as a platform to serve the people more effectively and bring meaningful development to society.

‎ What would you do differently if given the opportunity to represent your people in any capacity?

‎I would focus on accountability, transparency, and empowerment. My approach would be people-centered, creating opportunities for youth, improving access to quality healthcare and education, and ensuring that leadership truly serves the people’s interests.

‎ Are you satisfied with the politics of the Ika nation?

‎There is progress, but there’s room for improvement. I believe our politics should be driven more by service and unity than by personal ambition or division.

‎What can you say about Ika Development with reference to the immediate past administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa?

‎Governor Okowa made notable contributions, particularly in infrastructure and education. For example, his democratization of access and proximity to university education is an indelible feat cast on stone. His tenure reflected visible progress, though like every administration, there’s always more to be done to consolidate gains and expand development across Ika land.

‎What are your thoughts on the increasing unemployment in Nigeria?

‎It’s a serious concern that requires urgent attention. The government must partner with the private sector to promote entrepreneurship, vocational training, and digital skills development to reduce dependence on white-collar jobs.

‎What do you believe the government can do to address youth restiveness in Nigeria amidst rising insecurity?

‎The key is empowerment through education, job creation, and mentorship. When young people are engaged and hopeful about their future, they are less likely to turn to crime or violence.

‎ In light of rising indecent behaviours among members of Gen Z, would you say that modern parents have failed?

‎Not entirely. Society has evolved, and modern challenges require modern parenting. Parents must be more intentional about instilling values and monitoring the influences their children are exposed to, especially through technology and social media.

‎What is your stance on Nigeria’s rising insecurity, and what solutions would you propose?

‎Insecurity is both an economic and leadership issue. We must strengthen intelligence gathering, equip our security agencies, and address the root causes. Poverty, unemployment, and injustice. Community policing and social reforms can also make a difference.

‎Tell us a little about your wife

‎My wife is my greatest supporter and confidant. She is a virtuous, intelligent, and compassionate woman who shares my passion for service and community development.

‎How did you meet her?

‎We met through mutual friends many years ago. What started as a friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership built on mutual respect, love, and shared values.

‎ Who exactly is Dr. Mabatah?

‎Dr. Mabatah is a simple man driven by faith, service, and the belief that everyone has a role to play in making the world better. I am committed to impacting lives positively, both in my professional capacity and through humanitarian efforts.

‎A legacy of compassion, empowerment, and service. I want to be remembered as someone who used his blessings to lift others and helped build systems that outlive him.

‎ Do you have mentors?

‎Yes. I have been blessed with mentors who have guided and inspired me through different stages of life. Their wisdom continues to influence my journey and decisions.

‎What are your likes and dislikes?

‎I like honesty, hard work, and humility. I dislike deceit, laziness, and injustice.

‎

What are your best and worst moments?

‎My best moments are those when I see joy restored to someone I’ve helped. My worst moments are when I witness preventable suffering, especially among children and the elderly.

‎What are your hobbies?

‎I enjoy reading, traveling, engaging in community work, and spending quality time with family.

‎What is your favorite Ika delicacy?

‎Without a doubt, Ofe ogiri (eguisi soup) with fufu that authentic home taste that reminds me of my roots.

Additionally, what advice do you have for the Ika youth?

‎Stay focused, be patient, and pursue excellence. Don’t be discouraged by temporary setbacks. Hard work and integrity always pay off. Also, love your community and contribute to its growth, no matter where you find yourself.

‎Is there anything else you would like to say?

‎I want to thank the Ika people for their resilience and unity. Together, we can build a brighter future for our region and the nation at large. My message is simple: let us lead with love, act with integrity, and serve with purpose.
