BRAZIL: The Karipuna Indigenous Territory in Brazil is not only home to the Karipuna people but also an unknown number of uncontacted people.
However, the seemingly unceasing invasion of the territory by landgrabbers and loggers left, right and centre is threatening the peace and survival of the Karipuna Indigenes and uncontacted people in Brazil.
Survival International, a global movement for indigenous and tribal people’s rights, is asking the Brazilian government to act decisively to get the landgrabbers and loggers out.
The not – for – profit organisation in its latest post shared on social media, also urged Brazilian government to monitor the territory properly, stating it remains the only way they can guarantee the protection of the territory and the survival of the Karipuna and the uncontacted Indigenous people living there.
It acknowledged that the government had in an operation in July 2024 got the non-Indigenous people out of the territory, but added that they’re soon back, expressing the concern that the situation is getting worse.
“The situation is so much worse right now. We’ve discovered many new places where people are coming in, in different parts of the territory, especially in the south. There are a lot of them,” Survival stated in quote of a Karipuna person.
