A lone road accident involving a truck conveying cattles and 29 passengers have left six people dead and 23 others with varying degrees of injuries.
The accident occured on Monday morning along Ibadan-Lagos expressway, near Foursquare Camp.
The truck was believed to be coming from the northern part of the country and heading to Lagos State when the crash occured.
The Superintendent Route Commander,
Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Odunsi attributed the cause of the crash to speed violation and fatigue which led to loss of control, stressing that investigations were still on going to establish the precise mechanical and contributory factors.
He stated that FRSC operatives had secured the crash scene while
medical personnel were dispatched to treatment facilities for the injured.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise mechanical and contributing factors.
According to him, the injured and remains of the dead were taken to Oreoluwa hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin and Victory hospital, Ogere.
He stated, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command reports a fatal road traffic crash (RTC) on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, near the Foursquare Camp area, earlier today.
“The incident occurred at about 11:27 hours, the response time was two minutes before the rescue team from FRSC Ogunmakin Unit Command got to the scene. A trailer (DAF CF 380; White/Blue)
Registration: SNA 287 XA was involved in the lone crash.
“A total of twenty nine Persons were Involved:(29), twenty three(23) persons were injured while six(6)persons were killed.
“This was a case of mixed loading of cattles and passengers. FRSC discourages it because there is no segregation between goods and the animals. In an event of a crash, it is difficult to be able to separate human and goods and may eventually lead to loss of lives. It was a fatal single vehicle collision.”
