Fourteen – year old Soetan Deborah Omobolawa is bearing a burden. Her beauty is not complete. Her self esteem is weak. Self pride is also a rarity to her. The cause is a malformation in a part of her body. Health experts have diagnosed the condition as Curved Spines but it can be corrected through painstaking surgery, according to them.
But the snag is the cost implications, which was put at N20million some weeks ago by surgeons. That amount is quite out of this world for a girl that comes from a modest home but she needs it urgently for the surgery.
The helpless mother, Afuape Jumoke, a petty trader and single parent, is crying out to well- meaning Nigerians to come to her aid in the case of her daughter, Omobolawa, to enable them tackle the curved spine known in medical parlance as idiopathic Scoliosis as advised by the doctors.
The abnormal formation of the spine which is almost touching her heart has become life threatening as medical experts said unless an urgent surgery is carried out, the girl will soon begin to have difficulties in breathing and may be choked to death.
As a result of this precarious situation, Deborah needs N20 million naira by first week in August to do the correctional surgery.
Ms Afuape Jumoke said her daughter had been living with this unusual condition for several years and she had made attempt to cover it up, hoping it would just go away through divine touch, with many people even mistaken her for a hunchback , but when the case is getting out of hand, she decided to cry out for help.
