The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has confirmed the moon sighting, signifying the end of Ramadan 1446 and the beginning of Shawwal.
Eid Al-Fitr 1446 will be observed today, Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Shawwal was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed the moon sighting, marking the end of Ramadan 1446 and the beginning of Shawwal, paving way for the Muslims in the Kingdom and several other countries that follow Saudi Arabia’s lunar calendar to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr today.
In Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH in the country on Saturday evening.
Abubakar in a special broadcast to the Muslims Ummah on Saturday night announced the moon sighting in his palace in Sokoto, saying the new moon was sighted in various parts of the country.
This followed reports received by the moon sighting committee from the traditional, Muslim leaders and organisations across the country.
“The reports of sighting the new moon was duly verified and authenticated by the Sultanate Council Moon Committee
“Consequent upon this, tomorrow Sunday, 30th March 2025 become the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH and the day of the Eid el Fitr,” Sultan Sa’ad declared
The Sultan advised Muslims to put into practice lessons they learnt during the fasting period
Sultan Abubakar also called on Nigerians to continue to live in harmony with one another for the country’s socio-economic development
He also urged Muslims to continue to pray for the country and leaders at all levels.
