Robbers have invaded the Sunshine Homes estate in Lokogoma district of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), kìlling a retired Army Brigadier General, Uwem Harold Udokwere, in the process.
The FCT Police Command which disclosed this on Sunday, said the assailants invaded the upscale estate under the cover of night.
In a statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the robbers encountered Brigadier General Udokwere, who reportedly resisted the invaders and in the ensuing confrontation, he sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Adeh said: “The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Benneth Igweh, has expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
“This is a deeply regrettable and tragic event. We assure the family and the public that we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation. The perpetrators of this heinous crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.
“The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Our commitment is to ensure swift justice, urging anyone with information to come forward.
“This attack has raised concerns about the security situation in Abuja, particularly in residential areas previously considered safe.
“The audacity of the robbers has left many residents in fear, prompting calls for enhanced security measures. The police authority has also increased the number of police officers on the road to tackle the menace.”
