The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has raised its cane on Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish.
The Daily Crucible gathered that Iluyomade who is also the head of the Apapa Family of the RCCG, was suspended over the weekend.
Since the death of the former Access Bank Managing Director and CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his son and wife following a helicopter crash in the United States which threw the nation into mourning, a different picture was painted with the lavish birthday party Iluyomade’s wife, Siji, threw while the remains of the Wigwes were still lying cold in the morgue.
Late Herbert Wigwe was said to be a pastor and major financier of the City of David parish of the RCCG.
The alleged extravagant 60th birth bash of Mrs Siji Iluyomade put the Iluyomades on the klieglight, with many condemning their action at the time and describing it as “utterly insensitive” and “inconsiderate.”
A newspaper columnist, Rudolf Okonkwo had written opinion piece recently about Iluyomade, King David Parish and why the RCCG authorities were unlikely to wield the stick on him.
It was not clear if the suspension slammed on him now followed the scathing write -up.
The Nation reports that Iluyomade was said to have been suspended for three months by the church’s Governing Council while a panel has also been set up to investigate some of the allegations against him and the parish.
A top pastor in the church said the decision to suspend Iluyomade was a response to the public outcry against the extravagant birthday party his wife, Siju Iluyomade, threw while Nigerians were mourning Wigwe, a prominent member of the church.
Iluyomade has since been replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of the RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 of the church. Kpandei resumed at the City of David on Sunday, June 2 and was said to have been given a cold welcome.
Pastor Iluyomade, fondly called PID, has been in the eye of the storm following that 60th birthday of his wife, Siji.
