Youths in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Monday, hit the street to protest the skyrocketing price of food and the state of the economy.
The Daily Crucible reports that the protesters bunched – up at the bustling Mokola area of Ibadan, the state capital – and they carried placards which read among others, ‘End food hike and inflation,’ ‘The poor are starving,’ and ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’ even as they chanted songs to register their grievances.
The protesters lamented the bitting hardship, saying it was taking its toll on many Nigerians, urging everyone to rise up against the high cost of living.
It was gathered that the protest started when a group of angry women, men and youths barricaded the Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu Roundabout to pour their hearts out over what they reckoned as the pervasive sufferings on the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government.
They halted vehicular traffic, demanding an end the economic situation in the country which started with the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
