Operatives executing the new launched ‘operation velvet’ have stormed the Gidan Dambe in Dei Dei – Zuba area of Abuja on Monday and arrested no fewer than 307 suspects.
The morning raid commandeered by the Federal Territory Capital (FCT) Abuja Commissioner, CP Benneth C. Igweh led to the recovery one English Pistol with fifteen (15) rounds of 9mm ammunition from one Ibrahim Tukur who claimed to be a DSS personnel.
Superintendent of Police, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer in a release also named motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances and valuables reasonably suspected to have have been stolen from innocent residents as other items that were equally recovered.
She added that the suspects were still undergoing screening, while also quoting CP Igweh as informing the public of operation velvet, which was launched two days earlier and comprising all the Tactical teams of the Command would curb all forms of vehicular criminality and other crimes in the Territory.
“The Commissioner of Police further cautions officers against extortion of residents and to adopt professionalism in the discharge of their lawful duties, as security of the populace remains his utmost priority.
