The Ogun State Police Command on Monday said it has arrested a suspect over the death of Nigerian Afrofuji star, Afeez Adesina, popularly called Destiny Boy.
Destiny Boy reputed for blending traditional Fuji sounds with contemporary music, hit the nation’s entertainment industry with sensation, carving a niche for himself even in his teens .
Reports of the singer’s death surfaced on social media yesterday and the sad incident was confirmed by Bolisco, an associate of Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, who revealed that Destiny Boy had been ill before he passed away .
The Daily Crucible reports that Destiny Boy started his music career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for veteran Fuji musician Pasuma, honing his innovation in Fuji music genre before he transitioning fully into recording music.
The singer gained national recognition in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If. The song trended on social media, earning him recognition and opening doors within the music industry.
As he garnered more fame from the cover, Destiny Boy released several Fuji-inspired versions of popular songs by artistes such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, steadily broadening his fan base across Nigeria.
He later concentrated on creating original material, releasing songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.
