The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted another round of 3 – day moderate to heavy downpour begins today, Tuesday, July 16, with likelihoods of displacement and outbreak of waterborne diseases occuring in affected states in some parts of the country.
The agency which also advised people to disconnect electrical appliances, said the risk of damage to roads and bridges due to flooding should be expected.
The warnings were contained in the agency’s impact-based weather forecast issued on Monday, where it also identified states that would witness moderate to heavy rainfall between Tuesday and Thursday this week.
The forecast reads: “On Tuesday, July 16, (0000-2359hrs), heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Bauchi, Niger, Kebbi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
“Low to moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Yobe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Gombe, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Cross River States.
“For Wednesday, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Niger, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. Low to moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
“On Thursday, Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Low to moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Bauchi, Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
“For moderate to heavy rainfall; displacement of people due to flood, outbreaks of waterborne diseases, and damages to infrastructures (roads, bridges) are expected.”
