A yet – to – be ascertained buyer has abandoned a baby he/she bought from a maid and ran away.
The baby was stolen by a maid at the weekend in Shomolu area and sold at N800,000 but the police recovered the child at Alade market in same Shomolu where the buyer abandoned the infant.
The infant was recovered at the early hours of yesterday at Alade Market in Shomolu, Lagos Mainland, according to police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
Hundeyin made this known on his verified X account.
The Daily Crucible reports that sympathetic Nigerians at the weekend joined in the search of the baby after an X user, @Simmm_K raised the alarm about the theft of the baby by a housemaid.
The X user claimed the baby’s mother was her colleague and the maid absconded with the child between 1am and 2am on Saturday.
The concerned X user also shared a picture of the young maid and a telephone number to be contacted in case the maid or the baby was found.
However, the maid was arrested at Ikorodu but the baby was not with her at the time of arrest.
The maid, it was learnt, confessed that she sold the baby to a buyer for N800,000.
Reacting, Hundeyin said: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu.”
According to the police spokesman in Lagos, efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing buyer were still on going.
