ABEOKUTA: A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Ogun State Government by various Egba groups, including Egba Descendants Associations, over the illegal eviction, wrongful demolition, and sale of private-family lands.
These lands were allegedly acquired under the pretext of public interest but sold to private entities.
The suit demands N200 million in damages for each affected family and an injunction to halt further construction.
The Ogun Government has 14 days to respond.
The notice of suit and addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun was issued from the law firm of MJS Partners and signed by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN.
According to notice sighted by The Daily Crucible, “The suit shall seek the following, among other reliefs: AN ORDER OF COURT for Perpetual Injunetion restraining the Defendants from building, constructing or otherwise taking possession of the land or building under construction in, all, or on the lands forming the subject matter of the suit.
AN ORDER OF COURT selling aside and/or nullifying the sale of the subject matter lands lo business entities and private persons being properties initially acquired for overriding public interest.
AN ORDER OF COURT for damages in the sum of N200,000,000 (Two Hundred
Million Naira) each to the original owners of the lands ad former occupants of the lands forming the subject matter of the suit.”
