Hundreds of Staff and students of Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, Abeokuta were stranded at camp junction, Abeokuta, as the fuel scarcity at the state capital worsened on Monday and Tuesday.
Scores of the students missed the 9 O’clock lectures due to unavailability of commercial vehicles to convey them to school.
The students who arrived the camp as early as 7:30am were still seen on a long queue as of 10am with no hope of getting vehicles to convey them to school.
Many of the campus shuttles, cabs and buses that ply the route to FUNAAB campus were no where to be found to carry the agonising students and some of the institution’s staff.
It was learnt that a good number of the transporters had momentarily abandoned the route to go in different directions, searching for fuel to fill their empty tanks.
Some of the students who spoke to our reporter, lamented that apart from paying higher transport fares from home to the camp junction due to the fuel scarcity, it was also quite painful to observe that their movement could not proceed any further as transporters were off the route.
One of the students who identified herself as Adebisi, said many of them missed the morning classes and other engagements in school because of the unavailability of buses and cabs to carry them.
