Former Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 presidential election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the United States to assist Nigeria with cutting-edge technology to tackle her security challenges rather than posing a threat that could further polarise the country.
Kwankwaso gave the advice in reaction to the Friday designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular (CPC)” by President Donald Trump over alleged ‘christian genocide’ and his subsequent “guns – a – blaze” threat against Nigeria.
The ex – Minister of Defence emphasized that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation whose people face different threats from outlaws across the geopolitical zones, stressing that the insecurity plaguing the country does not take cognizance of religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.
The former governor of Kano State who posted this on Sunday on his X handle, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently consider appointing special envoys from Nigerian diplomats to engage the American government.
He also harped on the need for the President to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.
He stated, “I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump. This follows his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern.’
“It is important to emphasise that our country is a sovereign nation whose people face different threats from outlaws across the country. The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.
“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country.
“The Nigerian government should also consider appointing special envoys from its distinguished diplomats to engage the American government. Additionally, it is necessary to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.
