Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomosho has rendered the emergence of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, as invalid.
The Oyo State Government had on September 8, 2023 announced Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun and proceeded to install on the same day.
But the Court on Wednesday, October 25 nullified Oba Ghandi Olaoye’s selection and installation as Soun and ordered the state government not to announce anybody as new Soun until the matter pertaining to the stool is resolved.
One of the contestants, Prince Kabir Laoye had filed a suit challenging the selection of Oba Ghandi Olaoye, alleging that he was not eligible to be appointed as Soun and prayed the Court to declare it as illegal.
The court agreed with Laoye’s position and ruled that Olaoye’s appointment was null and void.
The court also ordered the government not to appoint anyone to the position until after its judgement.
