People suspected to be bandits have struck in Zamfara State, kìlling two persons in the attack.
The bandits also kidnapped Alhaji Bashir Abara Gummi, who is said to be the Zamfara state coordinator of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), along with several others.
The attackers ambushed the victims on the busy Funtua-Gusau road, targeting multiple vehicles, including the one conveying Alhaji Gummi while he was travelling to Abuja for an official assignment at the time.
According to Leadership, security source revealed that the assailants opened fire on moving vehicles, tragically resulting in the deaths of two individuals at the scene before proceeding to abduct the coordinator and numerous other travellers.
“The bandits blocked the road, causing several vehicles to fall victim to their aggression. They fired indiscriminately and took several people hostage,” the source stated.
In a fortunate turn of events, Zamfara State Auditor General Alhaji Abubakar Dan Maliki narrowly escaped the ordeal.
Arriving shortly after the initial ambush, he managed to evade the bandits by swiftly making a U-turn after witnessing the chaos alongside other drivers.
