The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a landmark victory in the Saturday, July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, sweeping all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions.
Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Justice Mobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd.), announced the results on Sunday afternoon during a press briefing.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile said that the APC did not win the councilorship seat in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate clinched it.
The lone victory of the Peoples Democratic Party came from Ward D of the Yaba LCDA, where its candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, defeated the APC contender.
Dosunmu, a former APC member, joined the PDP shortly before the poll.
LASIEC said the elections was largely peaceful, despite initial concerns about voter turnout and alleged irregularities in some areas of Lagos.
The newly elected council chairmen and councillors are expected to be sworn in this month.
