Among the corporate dignitaries who joined thousands of Ijebu sons and daughters, traditional rulers and chiefs in Ijebuland for the fidau prayer on July 20, 2025 was the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Ijebu Ode. The ethnic group arrived at the main bowl of Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium Ijebu Ode, venue of the prayer in their scores with dance and drum beats.
They said the late monarch was an exemplary man, traditional leader and in- law deserving of their honour and last respect.
Speaking with The Daily Crucible on behalf of the ethnic group, Dr. Udu Chukwu, said the Igbo community in Ijebu Ode enjoyed palpable peace and prosperity during the reign of the demised Oba.
Udu Chukwu, who is the Onowu Ndigbo in Ijebu Ode, said he has been living in Ijebu for over 30 years without problem, adding their the Igbo businesses thrive in Ijebuland.

He said, “Late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona is our in-law. One of his daughters is married to one of us. The brother is from Nnewi in Anambra State. We are here to honour him as our inlaw and as our Oba and landlord in Ijebu.
“Some of have been in Ijebu Ode for many years. Personally, I have been living in Ijebu Ode for well over 30 years. Some of us are in the civil service here. Since living here, we have not had any problem. The late paramount ruler was a wonderful man. Our business thrives here.”
