Political office holders in Nigeria have been asked to pay more attention to children, especially children with special needs, in order to support them to become useful to themselves and society.
The Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Adeleye stated this during the presentation of a million naira cheque to install a transformer in Odogbolu and the hosting of children with special needs to mark his birthday.
Hon. Adeleye said, one of the cardinal points of his developmental agenda is to protect the physically challenged and those with special needs to encourage them to reach their full potentials.
He said, he decided to mark his birthday in a low-key with the less-privileged children in his constituency and in the service of his people, by donating a million naira for the installation of a 500 KVA transformer, donated by Chief Ladi Adebutu to the Federal Government College Road Development Area, Odogbolu.
According to him, “the prevailing economic realities do not warrant any wasteful spending but to embark on developmental and impactful things, that would bring succour to our people.”
He explained, that “the community has been in darkness for almost 6years when Chief Adebutu donated the transformer. Since then there has been no one to install it.
‘As overwhelming as things are, I can not continue to close my eyes to them. Though it has not been easy as the challenges are too enormous, but I have made it a point of duty to do my best and serve my people genuinely for the period of time they want me to serve them.”
Hon. Adeleye who expressed satisfaction spending his time and resources hosting and gifting the children with special needs, thanked God for sparing his life.
He enjoined all political office holders to have empathy and remember the people they are serving at all times.
