People suspected to be gunmen have attacked the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG), Desires of Nations Parish located in Abule-Ori area of Obafemi Owode Local Government of Ogun State, killing the pastor and abducting seven (7) members of the church.
The attackers struck around 12 midnight while the victims were observing a ‘night vigil’ inside the Church on Saturday, July 1st.
The kidnapped victims were however rescued later by the operatives of the So – Safe – Corps, a security outfit of the Ogun State Government.
The Commander of So-Safe Corps,
Dr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed this in a release on Sunday through the Corps’ Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
Ganzallo stated that the Owode-Egba Zonal Command under the leadership of Jimoh Omoniyi received a distress call that some members of the RCCG at Abule-Ori area of Obafemi Owode had been kidnapped while the pastor was killed in the process.
He noted that the operatives of the Corps responded to the distress calls, combed the surrounding areas and rescued the victims unhurt after exchange of gun fire with the kidnappers.
He revealed that one of the kidnappers was neutralized while others fled with gunshot wounds
Ganzallo added that a joint team of the Nigeria Police and the So-Safe – Corps were strategically going after the fleeing suspected kidnappers to capture them alive.
According to him, the remains of the suspect that died during the crossfire had been deposited in a nearby morgue.
