Six governors of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States have appointed their Lagos state counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the chairman of the South West Governors’ forum.
They also resolved to address the food insecurity in the geopolitical zone.
These followed the outcome of the Forum’s meeting in Lagos where all the six governors were present during a closed-door meeting on Monday, June 10.
Governor Sanwo – Olu took succeeds the former governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023.
At the meeting held at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, Office of Governor Sanwo-Olu, the forum also unanimously adopted “Iṣẹ̀ wà fùń Ilẹ wá” song as Southwest (Yoruba) anthem, going forward.
In a move suggested he would hit the ground running from Day One, the forum chairman directed the commissioners of agriculture to set up a working template for combating food insecurity challenges in Southwst.
Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu told the state house correspondents that the governors appointed him as the new chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum.
He was silent on the decision taken on the issue of the ongoing minimum wage imbroglio between the Federal Government and Organised Labour.
The governor said they await the outcome of negotiations between the two parties.
