A fresh twist has emerged in the early jostling for the 2027 Ogun governorship race, as Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has called on his army of supporters to halt the surge of campaign billboards and posters flooding parts of the state.
The development comes days after The Daily Crucible spotlighted a growing “poster war” engaged by supporters of key political figures, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, ahead of an last Saturday visit to the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a press statement released Tuesday through Chief Kayode Odunaro, his Media Adviser, Adeola—currently representing Ogun West Senatorial Districti in the 10th Senate —distanced himself from the wave of campaign materials promoting his much – talked – about 2027 ambition, stressing that he has yet to officially declare his intention.
“I am yet to declare my intention as I await the timetable of the party and other consultative processes,” the Senator said, urging restraint among loyalists eager to project his governorship bid.
While expressing gratitude for the enthusiasm and financial commitment of his supporters, Adeola emphasized the need to respect party procedures and Nigeria’s electoral guidelines. He noted that premature campaigning could undermine the structured processes that define the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senator’s appeal signals a strategic attempt to project discipline and party loyalty, even as political temperature in Ogun continues to rise well ahead of the official campaign season.
Observers say the early appearance of posters underscores intensifying behind-the-scenes maneuvering among aspirants, raising questions about how fiercely contested the Ogun 2027 race may become once the starting gun is officially fired.
The Daily Crucible reports that for now, Yayi appears keen to cool tensions—at least on the surface—by insisting that ambition must align with due process.
