A not-for-profit, non-political charity organisation, the Toyin Amuzu Foundation, TAF as part of its humanitarian services on Wednesday dispensed free fuel to two hundred, (200) commercial taxi drivers in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, to mark this year’s democracy day.
The founder and Chairman of the Foundation, Chief Toyin Amuzu said the gesture was a social service aimed at supporting the people at this time.
Chie Amuzu explained that the foundation’s decision to donate free fuel to taxis on June 12 will have a significant positive impact on commercial cab drivers and reduce their expenses.
According to him, “the Toyin Amuzu Foundation is committed to the well-being of the people, this gesture will no doubt increase their earnings and alleviate their financial stress”.
“With the fuel costs covered, drivers can work more hours, increase their income and overall well-being. This in no small measure, would demonstrate the power of social support and community engagement” he said.
Chief Amuzu noted that the gesture is also to recognize hard work, reward the efforts of the drivers who are part of the Nations labour force, give them hope and encourage them to work harder and strive for excellence.
The commercial taxi cab drivers who were seen in their numbers queing at a filling station in Ijaye area of Abeokuta could not hide their joy as they thanked the Toyin Amuzu Foundation for its thoughtfulness.
Mr Kolade Adeogun, who was one of the beneficiaries of the free fuel thanked the donor, saying “it is same as giving them money to ease their pains”.
Another beneficiary, Mr Wale Olaleye said this was not the first time he would be getting such free fuel from the foundation and that the group had always supported the people at various times.
