The search and rescue operations team at the scene of the flood – ravaged Mokwa in Niger state has said that the death toll from the disaster had climbed to 115.
The Daily Crucible reports that following hours – long torrential rain that pounded Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa Local Government, a large swathe of residential areas were submerged by heavy flood which also swept scores of residents away.
The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Ibrahim Hussaini, on behalf of the Director General, Ibrahim Baba Arah, said that 115 bodies recovered while the search and rescue was still ongoing.
“Contrary to what is on social media, we have recovered 115 bodies. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” he said.
