The Federal Government has suspended the officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres, Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak indicating that cross dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky spent his jail term outside the prison facility.
Idris Okuneye was convicted of a crime of Naira abuse among others and sentenced to six months in jail but was allegedly given an apartment outside the custodial centre.
The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB, Ja’afaru Ahmed disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 26.
According to Ahmed, the suspension of the officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations, assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.
“Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.
“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
“In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.”
Meanwhile, hurting barrage of condemnations trailing the leaked video that he allegedly compromised prison officials, the social media personality and crossdresser, Bobrisky has recently slipped into despair and indicated that he is contemplating suicide amid the bribery allegations involving him and officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Nigerian Correctional Service.
A social media person, Martins Otse, fondly called VeryDarkMan, released an incriminating audio recording alleging that Bobrisky paid some yet-to-be-identified EFCC officials ₦15 million bribe to drop his money laundering charges.
However, on Thursday, he took to his official social media page (Instagram) to give expression to his frustration over the public attacks.
He subsequently revealed his suicidal thoughts in the now-deleted post.
