A 31 – year – old Sunday Jimoh, a resident of Laditan Area, Oja-Odan, Ogun State has drowned in a well beside his shop in the community while to retrieve a phone that fell inside.
This happened barely 24 hours after a 19 – year – old boy identified as Oluwaferanmi got drowned in an abandoned quarry pool in Odeda Local Government Area of the state while swimming..
One Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, a resident of Junction Area, Oja-Odan, who witnessed the Oja Odan drowning incident, told the police that he saw Sunday Jimoh attempting to enter a well beside his shop to retrieve a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well.
Aladeshayi said despite repeated warnings against the dangerous act, Sunday Jimoh insisted on entering the well to retrieve his phone, stressing that while he was away, Jimoh entered the well and got drowned.
Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed this on Sunday in a release, stated that the tragic incident occurred in Oja-Odan on Saturday.
CSP Odutola said detectives swiftly responded to the scene, mobilised rescue experts and recovered the body.
According to her, investigation has revealed no signs of violence, confirming that the incident was an unfortunate accident.
She noted that the family of the deceased had been notified, and they requested to bury the remains in accordance with Muslim rites.
