Gunmen suspected to be bandits have launched a deadly attack on a poultry farm in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing a woman and her daughter during a failed kidnapping operation.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Igushi via Ala, Akure, where about five heavily armed assailants reportedly invaded the farm, opening fire and throwing workers into panic.
Sources said the attackers shot the farm owner and her daughter dead on the spot while attempting to abduct other persons at the facility.
Confirming the attack on Friday, Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, condemned the incident as “heinous and tragic,” noting that security operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
“The police command in Ondo State strongly condemns the heinous, violent incident at Igushin via Ala, Akure, which led to the tragic loss of two innocent lives,” the statement read.
Jimoh disclosed that two victims were rescued during a swift, coordinated operation by security personnel, though he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
“While two victims were successfully rescued, the command expresses deep sorrow over the unfortunate deaths recorded,” he added.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
