The Accord Party House of Representatives candidate for Remo Federal Constituency, Ogun State, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, has pledged to address the perennial flood challenges facing residents and people of the three constituent local governments – Sagamu, Remo North and Ikenne.
Oke who sympathized with victims of the recent flood disaster that hit a large swathe of Remoland following hours – long heavy downpour, blamed the occurrence of the “calamity” on the absence of proper drainage systems, erosion control, and well-planned layout by the government — town planning authority.
Vowing that the ugly trend must never be allowed to continue if elected on August 16 to represent the area in the 10th National Assembly, the candidate pledged to advocate for a direct federal intervention through NEMA, and the Ecological Fund Office to provide relief materials and compensation to the victims.
According to him, he will also suggest major drainage and flood-control projects as his constituency project proposals, targeting vulnerable areas around Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North.
The Daily Crucible reports that due to the devastating impact of the recent flood incidents in Remoland, Oke had to shift his political campaign flag off for the bye – election to Monday, August 11, 2025, to identify with the feelings of the constituents at the moment.
The Daily Crucible reports further that the flood affected many places, including Iwelepe, Sagamu, Isale-Oko, Ogijo, Odogbolu Road in Ikenne, and parts of Remo North like Ode-Remo, Ipara, and Aiyegbami – in Remo Federal Constituency. The incident brought distress to many families and businesses, with homes inundated, properties damaged, and businesses disrupted.
Some fish farmers in the area were said to have lost their ponds, stock, and investments. Small and large business owners also had their shops and goods swept away while some homeowners and property developers were not spared by the flood as their properties and buildings were said to have been degraded.
Describing the victims as hardworking residents and investors, the House of Representatives hopeful lamented that the people’s hope had been eroded by this avoidable disaster, vowing again to tackle the menace if elected as a member of the 10th National Assembly to represent Remo Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber.
Oke said, “These losses are not merely monetary, they are emotional, structural, and deeply personal. Being a son of the soil and a committed candidate for the House of Representatives, I pledge that if elected:
“I will table a motion in the National Assembly to bring attention to the Remo flood menace and demand permanent intervention from relevant MDAs.
” I will engage fish farmers, market women, SMEs, and local investors in rebuilding, as their survival is paramount to our constituency’s economic power.
“This is not an election about winning a seat, but an election about standing up for the people, fighting for our communities, and being heard where it matters.
“As we get ready to go out and vote for the bye-election on August 16, I call on all constituents: vote for capacity, compassion, and commitment. Vote for a future where your safety, your property, and your hard work are respected and protected.
“Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will rise. Together, we will restore Remo.”
