Police have arrested a man identified as
Ogidan Mustapha for alleged unethical herbalist practices by chopping off the hands an electrocuted minor before wrapping her remains in a mat and dumped it near a river bank.
It was learnt that Vigilante operatives had on Friday, September 20, at about 1:30 AM, observed suspicious activity in a bush near the Igbosoro river in Igode village, Ogun State, compelling them to storm the location.
The suspect, Ogidan Mustapha was sighted and apprehended while dumping the wrapped corpse of the girl in a mat in the area. He was handed over to the police.
It was further gathered that a closer inspection by vigilante operatives, revealed that the corpse was a young girl, one Oriyomi Gboyega, 13 – year- old with both of her hands amputated and wrapped in a mat before being discarded near the river.
However, when the mother of the late girl, one Peace Adegboyega, was contacted, she stated that her daughter had died from electrocution on Thursday, September 20, at about 10.20am, and arrangements were being made for her burial the following day but
expressed shock that their neighbour, Ogidan, was found with the amputated body of her daughter in the bush.
SP Omolola Odutola, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, who confirmed this, said
search warrant was executed at Ogidan Mustapha’s residence by the Divisional Police Officer and the Vigilante group which led to the recovery of two English pump action rifles and various local charms in his house.
According to SP Odutola, during police interrogation and questioning, the suspect denied amputating the 13 year-old girl but confessed that the girl’s father, one Sunday Adegboyega, had asked him to help bury the deceased far from home.
However, three other suspects of northern origin who assisted in digging the grave were also arrested.
